The Goal:

Weight loss, better general health.

The Promise:

That raw food is loaded packed with natural nutrients and enzymes that enable the body to reach best possible health and lose weight in the process.

The Driving Principle:
The history of Raw food as a diet regimen goes back to the late 19th century when a doctor Maximilian Bircher-Benner, discovered that he was able to cure his own jaundice by eating raw apples. This led to a lot of research on the benefits of raw food and the diet has continuously evolved as new findings come into play. Raw food essentially means precisely that - you eat raw food. No food that is cooked, processed, genetically manipulated or been exposed to pesticides or herbicides forms part of this diet. The diet includes fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, berries, herbs, roots and nuts in their natural state. The theory is that cooking depletes all the vitamins and other nutrients that are needed by the human body. When you are on a diet such as this, you usually end up eating about half the calories you would eat of cooked diet without compromising on quantity..

The Star ratings reflect scores between 1 to 5 assigned to the Mediterranean diet in 6 categories by by two medical professionals namely, Dr Alison Malcom and Dr Beryl D Vali, after reviewing the product in-depth. Both of them have spent enormous time in community health that include dealing with obesity, nutrition and incidental diseases in various parts of the world. Though reviewers were impressed with the diet's ability to deliver weight loss, they opined that is was one which was very difficult to keep at and also involved safety risks. Yet the fact remains that it is one of the best ones for weight loss per se.

The diet was considered expensive to keep at because of the type of ingredients and variety that goes into it, which is what you normally have at home or is available at the nearest grocer or vegetable market.

How Does The Raw Diet Work?

For the most part, you will be eating vegetable or plant type foods. You will also be consuming raw (unpasteurized) milk, fish and specific types of raw meat. In addition, the diet also includes plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits, cashew, sunflower seeds etc. You will also eat whole grains along with raw organic legumes such as lentils. The diet also includes olive oil, coconut oil and evn cocnut butter- all raw- besides fresh vegetable juice and various herbal teas.

The diet requires you to stay off all processed and pasteurized foods, refined flours and sugars, salt and any form of caffeine. You are also prohibited from consuming all junk food including pasta, bakery products and commercially produced fruit juices. Frsh juices made at home and vegetables are the alternative.

Unclear, but the raw food diet could have a positive effect. An eating pattern heavy on fruits and veggies, but light on saturated fat and salt, is considered the best way to keep cholesterol and blood pressure in check and heart disease at bay.
